The StarCross Drum & Bugle Corps is now forming in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania. (Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Wilson, Walnutport etc)
The new Corps is part of the StarCross Youth Performing Arts Inc which will also have a Winter Indoor Color Guard, a Winter Percussion Ensemble, a Latin Percussion Ensemble and a String Ensemble. Enrollment is open to any young adult, ages 9 through 21 who would like to participate in any of the programs being offered. Although experience is welcomed," no experience" is necessary and all equipment/instrument and instruction will be provided at no charge in this "no audition" program. The group will welcome young adults with the desire to learn and become active.
This is a "teaching" organization, made up of volunteer instructors and educators. The purpose of this organization is to educate todays youth not only as musicians and performers but to share the history of what they are a part of. Trying not to use the term "old drum corps" is hard to do.....because in essence, that's what it will be...a local group of participants, involved in local events and learning about the activity's history and how it achieved through the years, the programs seen in today's Drum Corps................we hope to be able to take the members to local DCI competitions so they can see what the Open Class Corps of today are doing, and how much work is necessary to achieve such a program. Always nice to have a target to work towards.
At this time, the plans are to have this new Corps find a smaller venue to compete in than the DCI Program...............as an organization, we will strive to get together with other non competing units throughout the East Coast and talk about possibilities......this program will be geared to what Drum Corps World readers can remember as the Division III Corps of the once very active DCI Div II/III of Drum Corps.
To contact the organization about membership, volunteer opportunities or questions, please feel free to call the Corps at 484 240-4686
Our list of staff and consultants will be available on the Corps Website at www.starcrossdbc.org by June 30th, 2009
If any of you are reading this article and are thinking of starting up a local Drum Corps, or if you currently are involved in a Corps that is currently not competing, please contact us.
