StarCross Drum & Bugle Corps

This is a musical marching unit (similar to a marching band) consisting of brass instruments, percussion instruments and color guard.  This unit performs (competes) on football fields, participates in exhibitions (festivals and civic functions) and parades.  Participants range in age from 8 to 21 years old.  This is a teaching organization and the StarCross will accept any and all students who wish to participate. No prior experience is necessary. We will provide instruments and instruction. Students are responsible for attending all practices, events and exhibitions. The drum corps season runs weekly from September to June and then extended practices from June through early August.

Winter Percussion Ensemble

This ensemble consists of the marching percussion (the battery) and the front ensemble (the pit).  Indoor percussion combines elements of music performance, marching and theater, the activity is sometimes referred to as "percussion theater." To perform in this ensemble, the students must have achieved a certain level of musicianship, prior experience is welcomed. The winter percussion ensemble season runs from September through January.

Rock String Ensemble

A combination of chamber music string ensemble with a rock band theme, the Rock String Ensemble combines various stringed instruments such as violins, cellos, violas, acoustic (electric) or classical guitars, electric bass and possibly a keyboard, with classic rock arrangements such as String, Santana and the like.  This group would perform at exhibitions, festivals and special civic events.  Instruments and instruction will be provided. No prior experience necessary, but always welcomed. This ensemble's season runs all year long.

Choral Ensemble

This program will provide singers with the opportunity to sing as part of a larger choral ensemble. The choral ensemble will meet weekly in smaller sections to learn parts and in a larger group rehearsal. The choral ensemble, at this point, is non-competitive, but provides singers with more opportunities to perform during exhibitions.

Instrumental and Vocal Instruction

Start on keyboard and learn how to read and play music, then take classes in a variety of instruments until you find the one that makes your heart sing. Saxophone, percussion, trumpet, piano, flute or ukelale... We provide both private and group instruction, along with free instruments that can be "rented" during the term of the lessons. Once a year, students will have the opportunity to perform in a student showcase. This program may also include field trips to various music events in the region.

World Percussion Ensemble

Although many of the member participants in this group could be from the pit area of the drum corps, everyone is invited to participate, learning new and exciting rhythms on several instruments such as conga, bongo, cowbell, timbale etc. This ensemble would also perform at exhibitions, festivals and special civic events. Instruments and instruction provided, no prior expereince necessary, but always welcomed. This ensemble's season runs from January through June.

These are great programs that will give students a sound foundation in musicianship. Other programs, including theory, music history and orchestration may be offered as workshops throughout the year. All members are invited and encouraged to attend.
